U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have arrested David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a high-ranking leader of the MS-13 gang, in Hyattsville, Maryland. The arrest took place on February 27. Orellana-Aleman, 27, is charged in El Salvador with possession of a firearm, extortion, and terrorist affiliation.

"The apprehension of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman strikes a significant blow to the leadership and organization of the MS-13 terrorist organization," stated ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations acting Field Office Director Matthew Elliston. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between ICE and the FBI in maintaining public safety by removing illegal alien offenders from communities.

Orellana is recognized as a key figure within MS-13's operations across the United States, Mexico, and Europe. "Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest," said FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno. He noted that Orellana's detention highlights successful collaboration in disrupting violent criminal activities.

Previously arrested by authorities in El Salvador on December 1, 2016, Orellana faced charges for his involvement with MS-13. He entered the U.S. illegally at an unspecified time and location without inspection or admission by immigration officials.

The Prince George’s County Police Department detained him on December 9, 2024, for driving without a license before he was taken into ICE custody following his recent arrest.

The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities through ICE's hotline at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or via their online tip form.
