U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Jahmari Taffari Westcarth, a Jamaican national, into custody in Boston. Westcarth, 26, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family member in Massachusetts.

“Jahmari Taffari Westcarth stands accused of assaulting and victimizing a family member in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He represents a significant threat to the residents of our community,” stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. She added, “We simply refuse to tolerate such dangers to the law-abiding residents of our New England neighborhoods. ICE Boston stands firm in our commitment to prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our neighborhoods.”

Westcarth was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol after entering the United States illegally near San Ysidro, California, on December 30, 2022. He was served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge from the Department of Justice.

The Dorchester District Court arraigned him on January 8 for his charges but later released him after refusing to honor an immigration detainer lodged by ICE that same day.

Following his release from court custody, Westcarth remains detained by ICE.
