Representative Veronica Escobar, serving the 16th district of Texas in the U.S. Congress since 2019, expressed concerns over several recent political developments. Her clear position on these issues is outlined in her series of tweets posted on April 10, 2025.
On that day, Escobar criticized the actions of the Trump administration concerning the legal system. She stated that "The Trump administration keeps losing in court because they’re breaking the law. It’s that simple. Yet Republicans are trying to overhaul the federal court system and rewrite the rules. That’s why I voted against the Republican effort to erode judicial powers."
In her subsequent post, Escobar highlighted her concerns about the federal budget, emphasizing its preferential treatment for the wealthy. She remarked that "There’s only one group this budget helps: billionaires. Hard working Americans will pay for those massive tax breaks with cuts to Medicaid and nutrition programs, and our children will inherit explosive debt."
Later that day, Escobar reiterated her opposition to the Republican budget resolution, stating her commitment to holding the GOP accountable. She tweeted "I just voted against the harmful Republican budget resolution. Republicans told Americans to trust them on the economy and Donald Trump promised to lower costs on ‘day one.’ But the budget Republicans voted in favor of today fails to deliver on what they told you they would do."
Escobar's stance reflects her position as a member of Congress, a role she has held since succeeding Beto O'Rourke. Before taking office, she served in the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011. She was born in El Paso, Texas in 1969, where she currently resides, and she graduated with a BA from the University of Texas, El Paso.
