U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies has arrested a Brazilian national who was residing illegally in the United States. The individual, identified as Caio Vitor Guimaraes-Silva, aged 21, is a validated gang member convicted of assault and battery against a Massachusetts resident. His arrest took place during an immigration enforcement operation in Bellingham on February 3.
"Caio Vitor Guimaraes-Silva has not only shown a blatant disregard for U.S. immigration laws, but he also presented a significant danger to the residents of Massachusetts," stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston. "As a documented member of a violent street gang and an alien convicted of a violent crime, we could no longer abide Mr. Guimaraes’ presence in our community. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our New England neighborhoods."
Guimaraes originally entered the United States legally on September 3, 2017, but subsequently violated the terms of his admission. Following his arrest by local authorities, ICE lodged an immigration detainer against him at Middlesex County House of Corrections on February 16, 2024.
The Milford District Court found Guimaraes guilty on September 9, 2024, for two counts of assault and battery against a Massachusetts resident. He was sentenced to one year in prison; however, all but 90 days were suspended. Despite the ICE detainer request, Guimaraes was released from state custody after serving his time.
Currently held in ICE custody following his recent arrest, members of the public are encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or using their online tip form.
