Rep. Veronica Escobar, who has represented Texas' 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently expressed concerns via social media about issues related to governance and ethics. Escobar replaced previous congress member Beto O'Rourke and has a history of public service that includes membership on the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011.
On April 14, Rep. Escobar commented on two men she described as "wanna-be dictators," questioning their powerlessness in sending and detaining an innocent man to a gulag. She warned of the potential for such actions to extend to U.S. citizens, describing the situation as an "outrage."
Escobar addressed financial losses experienced by Americans due to actions by former President Donald Trump, stating that while the public lost trillions in retirement funds due to Trump’s trade war, some Congress members gained financially. On April 14, she advocated for the banning of stock trading by members of Congress and urged the Ethics Committee to investigate the matter for "exploitation."
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Rep. Escobar provided a link to a letter she directed to the committee, further detailing her concerns over the issue.
Veronica Escobar, born in 1969 in El Paso, Texas, graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BA and continues to reside in her hometown.
