An investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has resulted in charges against Mario Antonio Mejia-Calderon, a 34-year-old Honduran national. He is accused of possessing a counterfeit permanent resident card, commonly known as a "green card," and illegal re-entry into the United States after deportation.

Mejia-Calderon could face up to 12 years in federal prison if found guilty on both charges. He was apprehended and ordered to remain in custody while awaiting trial.

Authorities discovered Mejia-Calderon unlawfully present in the U.S. with a counterfeit green card on January 24, following his previous deportation on June 11, 2013.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Coolican will prosecute the case.
