Jose Salvador Alcaraz-Curiel, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison. This decision comes after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) investigation determined that he was a deported alien found in the United States.
Court records indicate that Alcaraz-Curiel was previously removed from the U.S. in October 2018 and again in September 2020. Despite these removals, he reentered the country illegally without lawful authority. ICE encountered him once more in Canyon County in March 2024.
"This conviction underscores the dedication of ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agents in safeguarding our nation’s laws," said Matthew Murphy, acting Special Agent in Charge for ICE HSI Seattle. "By holding individuals accountable for illegally reentering the United States, we emphasize the vital role of immigration enforcement in protecting the safety and security of our communities. We remain fully committed to enforcing immigration laws to safeguard the American public."
Alcaraz-Curiel has a history of state misdemeanor and felony convictions in Idaho. Additionally, he was federally convicted in Arizona in 2020 for being a deported alien found within U.S. borders.
Acting U.S. Attorney Whatcott praised ICE's efforts on this case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis J. Zebari led its prosecution.
