U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Edwin Eli Maldonado-Paredes, a 39-year-old Honduran national, into custody in San Antonio on February 18. Maldonado-Paredes had previously been deported from the United States twice and was found to be illegally present at the time of his arrest.
Maldonado-Paredes was initially ordered to be removed by an immigration judge on October 12, 2012, and subsequently deported to Honduras on October 24, 2012. He attempted to reenter the U.S. on December 30, 2013. The U.S. Border Patrol reinstated his previous removal order on that date, leading to his second deportation to Honduras on January 10, 2014.
Currently, Maldonado-Paredes is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service as he awaits prosecution for reentry of a removed alien, which is classified as a felony federal crime. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison.
