U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the reopening of the Delaney Hall Facility in Newark, New Jersey. This development follows an agreement with the facility's owner to reestablish it as a federal immigration processing and detention center. The facility has a capacity of 1,000 beds.
Acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello stated, "This detention center is the first to open under the new administration." He highlighted that its location near an international airport will streamline logistics and aid in processing individuals in custody. This move aligns with President Trump's directive to arrest, detain, and remove illegal aliens from communities.
The reopening of Delaney Hall will increase ICE's detention capacity in the Northeast. It aims to enhance the agency's capability to manage enforcement and removal operations within this region.
