In response to the current COVID-19 situation in the state, Gov. Greg Abbott recently deployed additional resources to El Paso and Lubbock in an effort to stem the spread of the virus in those communities.
The additional resources include medical personnel and equipment, personal protective equipment and mobile testing sites, according to Abbott’s office.
El Paso has received 1,350 medical personnel deployed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), according to the release. An additional 35 beds have also been added to the Alternate Care Site in El Paso, and three U.S. Air Force Medical Specialty Teams have been deployed by the U.S. Department of Defense to assist area hospitals.
Additionally, three Auxiliary Medical Units (AMU) have been deployed to that region by DSHS, and TDEM has provided millions of masks, gloves and gowns, according to the release.
In Lubbock, two AMUs have been deployed by TDEM and DSHS to help handle a surge in hospitalizations, as well as 716 additional medical personnel to hospitals in the Panhandle and South Plains, according to the release. Additional AMUs are standing by in the region if needed, and millions of masks, gloves and gowns have been sent to the region.
