San Elizario Independent School District issued the following announcement on Oct. 21.
Sambrano Elementary School faculty and staff are energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of students during these most difficult times. The principal of Sambrano Elementary School, Norma Casillas, states, "Sambrano teachers and staff embrace the challenges of the future while continuing to cherish and celebrate the traditions of the past."
Our instructional specialists, Alyssa Padilla, and Rosario Rodriguez have supported our teachers with the implementation of guided reading and guided math to ensure the needs of all students are met. They model lessons for our teachers and assist in planning interactive lessons. Guided reading is an instructional approach that involves a teacher working with a small group of readers. During the lesson, the teacher provides a text that students can read with support. As the students read, the teacher coaches them as they use problem-solving strategies to read the text.
Teachers are creating interactive learning with various platforms to enhance their remote learning experience. Teachers are utilizing Jamboard, Pear Deck, and Flipgrid so students can share their learning. Teachers support parents with technology and the learning platforms that are being implemented. Also, teachers support our parents with troubleshooting, login credentials, and how to support their child with learning strategies.
Sambrano Elementary School continues with celebrations and traditions remotely. We have celebrated our Terrific Kids / Student of the month and will celebrate the end of nine weeks awards assemblies. Our parent Literacy meetings have also been a success with more parents in attendance remotely. We recently celebrated our Grandparents with a shared read aloud and home literacy activity. Our Gifted and Talented (GT) students meet weekly and are learning how to utilize virtual GT interactive notebooks and present screens/work via google classroom. We celebrated College Awareness week September 21-25 with daily activities and videos in Mrs. Villa's Google Classroom. "Our Sambrano parents have participated in our activities and have shown a commitment to their child's education. We are so grateful for the continued support and dedication of our parents" stated Mrs. Villa, our school counselor.
