Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) spoke at the El Paso Chamber 2020 Virtual State of Congress last week, saying that she worked to prioritize El Paso and vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a news release, Escobar said she hosted multiple virtual conversations with community leaders and constituents in El Paso to get information.
"In Washington, I worked to prioritize El Paso and vulnerable communities like ours because minority communities are disproportionately feeling the impact of COVID-19 and its deadly consequences," Escobar said. "Early on, I shared with our local leaders what Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, shared with me: Hispanics are as vulnerable to contracting and dying from the coronavirus as people living in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities."
Escobar said that warning was true all over the country and not just in El Paso. Escobar said she has tackled other issues as well, but made sure her focus has been on El Paso and what resources it needs.
