San Elizario Independent School District issued the following announcement on June 30.
The San Elizario Independent School District is proud to name Mr. Richard Salcido as the new principal at the Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School. During a virtual special meeting, San Elizario ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to accept Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez’s recommendation of Richard Salcido as the new principal for GEMS.
Superintendent Meza-Chavez states, “Salcido discussed his proven academic success and how important it was for him to build relationships with students.”
With approximately 16 years of experience in public schools, he is a former special education teacher, math teacher and state compensatory education intervention coach. He is presently an assistant principal at J.M. Hanks High School.
Mr. Salcido holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. He states the role of the principal is to be “genuine, humble, relatable while building a positive culture for students and staff.”
Salcido’s experience as an assistant principal for middle school and high school has enabled him to work to obtain gains in academics designations for the campuses he has served. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Rogelio Segovia, states, “I like that he does his research, obtains the data, and plans to better inform.” During his interview, he stated that he sees the characteristics of an effective teacher as one who “Let kids explore, has purposeful talks with students and open to technology by embracing the challenge.”
