ICE in collaboration with the FBI, has detained a Cuban national on charges of fraudulently obtaining Legal Permanent Resident | U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the FBI, has detained a Cuban national on charges of fraudulently obtaining Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status. Tomas Emilio Hernandez Cruz, aged 71 and residing in West Park, was taken into custody following an investigation that began in September 2023 by ICE Homeland Security Investigations Document and Benefit Fraud Task Force along with the FBI Miami Division.
The investigation revealed inconsistencies in Hernandez Cruz's immigration application. It was found that he had been a member of Cuban intelligence holding various high-level positions overseas. Hernandez Cruz allegedly concealed his true role within the Cuban Communist Party to mislead U.S. authorities during his LPR application process.
Hernandez Cruz is currently held in ICE custody as removal proceedings are underway.
