A U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement investigation has resulted in charges against Juan Carlos Ruiz-Diaz, a 44-year-old Mexican national, for illegal reentry into the United States. Ruiz-Diaz has been previously removed from the country six times and convicted twice for similar offenses.

If convicted on the current charge, Ruiz-Diaz faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Authorities discovered Ruiz-Diaz's illegal presence in the United States on February 26. His prior removals occurred on July 16, 2002; October 25, 2002; November 25, 2002; December 16, 2003; September 23, 2008; and April 28, 2011. He was previously convicted of illegal reentry on August 27, 2008, and October 27, 2010. There is no record of him receiving consent from either the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold B. Corsmeier will prosecute this case.
