Funding Available for Small Scale Improvement Projects to Enhance Neighborhoods

El Paso, Texas—The City of El Paso Department of Community and Human Development invites recognized Neighborhood Associations and Civic Associations to apply for the Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) aimed at enhancing neighborhoods in the community.

The NIP provides the opportunity for the associations to compete for funding for small-scale permanent physical improvement projects that make a big difference within their neighborhoods.

The City Council allocated $5 million to the NIP to be equally distributed among the City’s eight districts. Each district will receive $625,000 for NIP projects. Projects are competitively selected from the neighborhood and civic association submissions within the same District.

The deadline to submit is 5 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024.

A project request must be on City-owned land or city public-right-of-way. NIP funds may not be used for
purchase or acquisition of land or other property. Such projects include, but are not limited to the following:

 Picnic tables

 Playgrounds/Playground Improvements

 Streetlights

 Sidewalks

 ADA Curb Cuts

 Mural Installations

The new and improved NIP process includes an NIP Catalog that features feasible and descriptive projects to aid Neighborhood Association leaders in providing competitive applications for their respective districts. The program also features transparent online updates of the NIP process, so Neighborhood Associations are provided access updates regarding their application status.
