There were 47,278 students enrolled in Socorro ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 0.5% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.4% of them were boys, and 48.6% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 92% of the Socorro ISD total enrollment.

Socorro ISD roughly covers schools within El Paso County with its main office in El Paso.

Among the 50 schools in Socorro ISD, Pebble Hills High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,754 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
