Texas Gov. Greg Abbott recently announced a workshop in Galveston with the goal of promoting music in the community.
According to a press release, the Texas Music Office is collaborating with the City of Galveston to present a workshop aimed at creating a "Music Friendly Community" on Jan. 18. Chip Adams, Texas Music Office community relations and outreach specialist, will be there to explain and answer questions about the Music Friendly Community designation. Musicians, venues and the general public are encouraged to attend.
“Music is key to the Texas brand and to our local economies," Abbott said, according to the press release. "I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities large and small develop creative partnerships and grow new jobs, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside local leaders in Galveston to ensure they have the tools needed to succeed and prosper."
The workshop in Galveston is the first step in earning the Music Friendly certification label. Once completed, Galveston will be one of more than 35 Texas cities with the designation. Participation in the Texas Music Office Music Friendly Community program gives Texas communities a network for supporting the growth of the music industry.
The event will take place in Galveston on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, TX 77550. Visitors will have an opportunity to network with music industry stakeholders in Galveston and develop partnerships with Galveston's music-related 501c3 nonprofits.
