Congressman Tony Gonzales has helped secure $1.2 million in school safety funding for Texas District 23. Almost $900 million has been distributed. These funds are for school safety, increasing border security, and COVID response.
“Helping to secure resources for school safety has always been a top priority of mine,” Gonzales said in a post on Twitter. “That’s why I'm proud to have helped secure $1.2 million in school safety funding for #TX23. These critical dollars will equip schools with the tools they need to stop violence before it happens.”
Over $400 million alone of the funds is going to the safety of Texas schools, according to a Center Square report. The money will be used for upgrading or replacing things in their buildings such as doors, windows, fencing and communication aspects. $15 million will be used to build a brand-new elementary school in Uvalde to take the place of Robb Elementary School which is set to be demolished after a gunman murdered 19 children and two adults in May, the report said.
District 23 in Texas is receiving $442,400 for Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, $100,800 for Tornillo Independent School District, $494,304 for San Antonio Independent School District, and $199, 922 for Rocksprings Independent School District.
