Migrants continue to cross the U.S. border at Mexico, resulting in major cities having to struggle with making accommodations.
Once migrants reach US territory, they are led to El Paso, Texas; however, El Paso is overwhelmed with migrant occupancy. So Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is sending migrants across the nation.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has issued a state of emergency for New York over the migrant crisis and wants El Paso to stop sending migrants to his city, a recent KFOX14 report said.
"El Paso, the city manager, the mayor, they should stop sending buses to New York," Adams said in the report. "New York can not accommodate the number of buses we have coming here to our city."
But Abbott has refused the New York mayor's request.
"Sanctuary cities like New York City experience a FRACTION of what Texas border communities face every day," Abbott said in a recent Twitter post. "We'll continue busing migrants to NYC, DC, & Chicago to relieve our overwhelmed border towns until Biden does his job to secure the border."
More than 17,000 migrants have arrived in New York since April, including 7,368 from El Paso; a recent Spectrum News NY1 report said. Many shelters in New York are at full capacity. So far, 42 hotels have been turned into emergency shelters. Adams is asking for emergency federal and state aid because aiding migrants has now cost New York City almost 1 billion dollars.
