Donations can be made to political candidates in various amounts but must be reported to the Texas Ethics Commission. The legislature has also given the commission various other responsibilities, including filing financial disclosure statements for government officials and filing campaign finance regulatory statements by candidates and citizens who engage in political speech related to campaigns and elections.
