The United Way of El Paso County has received $5 million from MacKenzie Scott to advance community-based efforts in education, health care and other fields.
“Our United Way of El Paso County is honored and sincerely humbled to be among a select group of organizations in our region to receive a more than generous donation from respected and influential philanthropist MacKenzie Scott,” Deborah Zuloaga, CEO of United Way of El Paso County, said in a press release. “To have earned the trust of such a kind-hearted individual whose philanthropic goals align with ours including in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, economic justice, public health, and education, gives our team further inspiration to transform lives."
United Way officials announced the contribution from the author and humanitarian,
"Our mission has always been to ensure El Paso’s children and families are happy, healthy and strong and this gift significantly increases our potential to do just that,” United Way U.S. President Suzanne McCormick said. “This is a testament to the strength of the United Way network across the U.S. Even before COVID-19, United Way has been a leader in American communities, tackling the toughest problems. This investment will help United Way continue its impactful work through COVID and beyond – especially in creating equitable access for all.”
