What began as a dream on a bond program took a giant step toward realization as plans for El Paso’s new children’s museum were unveiled to the public during a groundbreaking.
KRWG reported Snøhetta architects Elaine Molinar and Nick Anderson presented an overview for the four-story facility that was described as a cloud-like, 70,000-square-foot structure. The views for the museum are breathtaking with lookout points for the Sierra de Juarez Mountains and the Franklin Mountains. The first floor features an entrance to the learning landscape, exhibitions and a café. The second through fourth floors are linked with a climbing structure.
“The new El Paso Children’s Museum will be a world-class venue, where not only the extensive exhibits but also the architecture itself and surrounding landscape will be a source of inspiration, education, and imagination that will be inviting for all cultures and ages from the borderplex region and beyond,” Snøhetta’s Elaine Molinar said.
The facility is located at 201 W. Main Drive in the downtown area of El Paso. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.
