The military has been a good friend to the State of Texas and the latest report conducted by the state comptroller’s office indicates Fort Bliss is making a significant contribution to the economy.
The study indicated Fort Bliss was responsible for bringing approximately $25 billion to the economy as well as contributing 130,000 jobs, KTSM.com reported. This placed third among the 15 military installations in the state behind Fort Hood in Killeen and the Joint Base Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio.
In total, the comptroller’s office found the military donated approximately $123 billion and 633,892 jobs directly and indirectly, KTSM.com reported.
The study released by the Gov. Greg Abbott’s office was conducted to measure the military’s impact on the state. The governor acknowledged the impact and made a commitment for continued support.
The governor said the jobs add critical stability to the state’s communities, particularly in view of COVID-19’s impact on the economy, the website reported.
