Veronica Escobar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 16th district, has recently shared her perspectives on economic disparities and fiscal policies through a series of tweets. Serving since 2019 after succeeding Beto O’Rourke, Escobar is known for her active engagement on issues impacting her constituents.

On May 21, 2025, Escobar highlighted the stark contrast between average income earners and top billionaires. She stated that “With the average income being just over $50k a year, it would take someone earning that rate 7.2 MILLION YEARS to make what the top 10 billionaires made in the past twelve months!” She further criticized Republicans for their stance on economic policies, adding that they are working to ensure that these wealthy individuals accumulate even more wealth at the expense of ordinary citizens.

Later that day, she addressed fiscal policy impacts in another tweet. Escobar posted “Here are 7 ways the Republican budget bill will directly increase your cost of living “ pointing out potential financial burdens imposed by proposed legislation.

Born in El Paso in 1969 and an alumna of the University of Texas at El Paso with a BA degree, Veronica Escobar has also served on the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011 before joining Congress.
