U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar, who has repeatedly secured her seat in Congress by defeating challengers such as Irene Armendariz-Jackson and Rick Seeberger in past elections, addressed concerns about the state of mental health care and national defense in a series of posts on August 29, 2025.

In her first statement at 14:32 UTC, Escobar wrote, “There is absolutely a mental health crisis in America. And it’s about to get worse because JD Vance, Donald Trump and Republicans pushed through the largest cuts to behavioral healthcare in American history. We need Medicare for All and sensible gun laws now.”

Shortly after, at 14:33 UTC, she posted a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/jW05z4Yshv”.

Later that day at 14:53 UTC, Escobar quoted Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s remarks from an appearance at the Army War College earlier that year: “We are laser focused on our mission of warfighting.” – Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Army War College, April 23 2025.

Escobar has maintained her position as U.S. Representative by winning several consecutive general elections. In 2018 she defeated Rick Seeberger with 68.5% of the vote; in subsequent races against Irene Armendariz-Jackson in 2020, 2022, and 2024 she received between approximately 59% and nearly 65% of the vote each time.
