Rep. Veronica Escobar, U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’s 16th district since 2019, addressed ongoing policy debates on her Twitter account with a series of posts from May 11 to May 12, 2026. Escobar commented on congressional divisions over healthcare and immigration reform, emphasizing the need for legislative action.
On May 11, Escobar wrote, “There is an acknowledgment from Republicans and Democrats in Congress that the status quo cannot remain. The Dignity Act is a solution. I believe the best time for reform was long ago, the second best time is right now.” She referred to bipartisan recognition of issues surrounding current policies and highlighted proposed reforms under consideration.
Earlier that day, she posted a brief message: “Or… https://t.co/w8x9nZzX1h https://t.co/nnn6qBZPnK”.
On May 12, Escobar criticized Republican opposition to extending tax credits related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), stating, “Republicans refused to join us in extending tax credits for the ACA and the American people are paying the price.”
Escobar has consistently won re-election since assuming office in 2019 after succeeding Beto O’Rourke. In each general election from 2018 through 2024, she secured victories by substantial margins against Republican challengers Irene Armendariz-Jackson and Rick Seeberger. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served on the El Paso County Commission between 2007 and 2011.
