Rep. Veronica Escobar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 16th district, has recently shared her views on several pressing issues via social media. Known for her active participation in political discourse, Escobar replaced Beto O’Rourke in Congress in 2019 and previously served on the El Paso County Commission.
On June 10, 2025, Escobar expressed skepticism regarding the actions of House Republicans with respect to an unspecified bill. She remarked “If only House Republicans were going to vote on the bill again soon!” This statement suggests a level of anticipation or frustration concerning legislative progress.
In another post on the same day, Escobar defended the right to peaceful protest as fundamental to democracy. She stated that “Peaceful protests are a cornerstone of our democracy and enshrined in the Constitution’s very first amendment.” Furthermore, she criticized those who threaten protestors with “heavy force,” describing such individuals as “weak dictators and authoritarians.”
Later that day, Escobar highlighted economic concerns related to military spending. She pointed out that “Our local food bank can feed a family for $655 a year.” Contrasting this with military expenditures, she noted that funds could be better allocated to support families rather than deploying troops.
Veronica Escobar continues to advocate for her constituents in El Paso while addressing broader national issues through her congressional role. A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, she brings a local perspective to national discussions.
