Veronica Escobar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 16th district, shared a series of tweets on July 3, 2025, addressing recent legislative developments and political narratives. Her comments were directed towards actions and statements made by Republican counterparts regarding tax cuts and wealth distribution.

In her first tweet, Escobar refuted claims that Democrats opposed tax cuts. She stated, “Democrats voted against tax cuts.” FACT: Wrong! We tried to collaborate with Republicans to make this bill something that would help – not hurt – Americans by filing hundreds of amendments to preserve your healthcare and tax the rich. Republicans rejected every amendment.” This statement highlights her view on bipartisan efforts and the amendments proposed by Democrats aimed at safeguarding healthcare while increasing taxes on wealthy individuals.

Escobar continued in another post expressing concerns over the implications of an upcoming bill she describes as “the biggest transfer of wealth in American history – from the poor to the very rich”. She cautioned about potential disinformation campaigns following the debate closure on this legislation, suggesting a need for public scrutiny and fact-checking of claims presented by Republicans.

In a subsequent tweet, she challenged Republican rhetoric concerning employment among Medicaid recipients. Escobar stated, “Republicans are making lazy 30-year-old men get out of the basement and go work”, countering with data indicating that “92% of adults under age 65 on Medicaid are already working or unable to work due to caregiving responsibilities, illness or disability, or school attendance.”

Veronica Escobar has been serving in Congress since replacing Beto O’Rourke in 2019. Prior to her current role, she was part of the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011. A native of El Paso born in 1969, Escobar graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor’s degree.
