Rep. Veronica Escobar, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 16th congressional district, addressed her constituents in a series of tweets posted on July 31 and August 1, 2025, focusing on community representation and concerns over proposed redistricting in El Paso.
On July 31, Escobar emphasized the importance of constituent engagement, writing “I just want to be seen or feel represented.”
We all do, which is why I encourage you to sign up for my newsletter, attend my mobile office hours around the community, or participate in my in-person or virtual town hall meetings.
She followed up later that day by informing residents about an upcoming public hearing related to redistricting: There’s still time for you to voice your opinions.
Tomorrow, the Texas House Committee in charge of redistricting will hold a public hearing. You can learn more here

The next day, Escobar raised concerns regarding Republican-led proposals affecting local communities: Republicans are trying to move vital parts of our community, like Fort Bliss, the airport, and parts of east El Paso to a different district.
I’m proud of my record for these areas. Do you think someone who lives 500 miles away will feel the same way?

Veronica Escobar has consistently won re-election since first securing her seat in Congress in 2018. In each subsequent general election—2018 against Rick Seeberger and from 2020 through 2024 against Irene Armendariz-Jackson—she has maintained significant margins of victory.
These statements come amid ongoing debates over legislative redistricting in Texas and reflect Escobar’s efforts to mobilize community participation as well as her opposition to proposed changes affecting key institutions within her district.
