Parks and Recreation Hosts Fashion Show

El PASO, Texas— In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Senior Program of the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Fashion Show at noon on Friday, March 8, at the Polly Harris Senior Center at 650 Wallenberg Dr.

More than 20 senior models who frequent the Polly Harris Senior Center will be walking the runway draped in stylish, colorful clothes. In preparation for their catwalk debuts, the models will be treated to free makeovers by Mary Kay Cosmetics and ITS Academy of Beauty.

“The fashion show serves as an empowering event for our senior community,” said Parks and Recreation Interim Director Pablo Caballero. “Not only does it celebrate all of the strong, beautiful women at our Senior Centers, but it also creates another opportunity for our senior population to remain active and involved.”

The special event is free and open to the public. This is the first time the Senior Program has hosted a fashion show for International Women’s Day. In addition to the fashion show, there will be a DJ and snacks.

International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated on March 8 to honor the achievements of women, recognize their contributions to society, and advocate for gender equality.

The Parks and Recreation Department has 10 Senior Centers in various neighborhoods in El Paso. Senior Centers offer opportunities for socialization, recreation, physical exercise, education, and nutritional support with a focus on overall health, wellness, and independence.
