Contest for Second through Twelfth Grade

EL PASO, Texas—The El Paso Public Libraries invites students to express themselves through poetry and art by participating in the 2024 Youth Art and Poetry Contest that is now open to students in grades 2 to 12.

The contest provides an opportunity for children and teenagers to showcase their talents in writing or art while expressing their ideas. The free contest does not have a theme.

“This type of contest gives our students a great opportunity to engage with art and poetry,” said El Paso Public Libraries Director Norma Martinez. “This program is one of many organized by the Public Libraries to encourage learning, creativity, and education for our young population.”

Poems

Poem entries can be submitted in English and Spanish. All poems will be judged on originality, creativity, clarity, and spelling. Categories include grades 2-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Three winners from each category and in each language will be selected.

Artwork

Artwork must be original and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material. All qualified art will be judged separately in the following grade categories: 2-5, 6-8, 9-12. One overall winner will appear on the cover of the Public Library’s official anthology, and three finalists in each grade category will appear in the anthology.

The deadline for submitting poems and artwork is Saturday, March 30. All winners will be notified in April.
