EL PASO, Texas— The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) Cultural Funding Program is awarding $201,500 in support to 22 local nonprofit cultural organizations and artists throughout El Paso for the new fiscal year.
“MCAD is proud to continue its support to our local creative community,” said Cultural Affairs and Recreation Managing Director Ben Fyffe. “The funding helps artists and nonprofit organizations put together performances, services, and projects such as film workshops, art exhibitions, printmaking festivals, and arts and cultural events with the goal of elevating arts accessibility to our City and community.”
MCAD’s competitive grant-making process entails an application review by a panel of community members. Since 2007, the program has awarded more than $5.4 million to the local artistic community and has been cited as a model of transparency by the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Art and cultural programming have a $103.4 million annual impact on the local economy according to an impact study by Americans for the Arts. This includes a
$1.8 million impact on local hotels and 4,193 full-time jobs.
