State Sen. Cesar Blanco (D-El Paso) recently joined local community leaders in El Paso to break ground for a new Veterans’ Wellness Center.
According to a report by KFox 14, the 42,000-square-foot center is slated to open in 2024. Blanco lauded the project in a social media post.
“Last week I had the pleasure of joining community leaders to break ground @EndeavorsOrg's new Veterans Wellness Center,” the state senator posted on Twitter, adding “this center will serve as a pillar of support for veterans in the #ElPaso County region.”
According to KFox 14, joining Blanco at the groundbreaking were U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) and University of Texas at El Paso President Heather Wilson.
The station also reported that the facility, in an effort to reduce suicide rates among veterans, will provide health and wellness services to veterans, their families and the community at large. The report also noted the center will include a café, mental health clinic, community rooms and a handicap-accessible fitness center.
Dr. Jill Palmer, Endeavors' chief of behavioral health, told KFox 14 that the organization will start to prioritize wellness and quality of life to help veterans feel more fulfilled. This, she added, could help reduce suicide rates.
