Cost of college went up for all students at The University of Texas at El Paso

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.4 percent for 2018-19 at The University of Texas at El Paso, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $8,198 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $347 more than the $7,851 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 176 percent more than residents this year, or $22,629. Their price tag grew 4.8 percent from $21,596 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. About 3 percent are residents of other states and 5 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 88 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,351 students received grants or scholarships totaling $21.3 million and 1,216 students took out student loans totaling more than $5.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (25,151), 14,069 students used grants or scholarships totaling $98.1 million, and 8,853 students took out $55.9 million in federal student loans.
