Rep. Veronica Escobar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 16th district, shared a series of tweets addressing issues related to Medicaid and healthcare policies on June 2, 2025.

In one tweet, Rep. Escobar addressed a misconception regarding undocumented immigrants and Medicaid. She stated, “There’s undocumented immigrants on Medicaid.” She clarified that “undocumented immigrants are already not allowed to be on Medicaid.”

Another tweet from Rep. Escobar highlighted the impact of work requirements on healthcare coverage in Arkansas. She noted that when such requirements were implemented, “25% of people subject to them lost coverage because of the reporting and documentation requirements.” She pointed out that this created a bureaucracy criticized by former President Trump and led directly to reduced coverage.

In a subsequent tweet, Rep. Escobar expressed concerns about potential harm to Americans due to changes in Medicaid policies. She emphasized that it “WILL hurt Americans who rely on Medicaid for healthcare,” including those working at hospitals facing closure and residents in rural communities losing access to healthcare services.

Veronica Escobar has served in the U.S. Congress since 2019 after replacing Beto O’Rourke. Prior to her congressional role, she was part of the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011.
