U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers have removed a Mexican national, Miguel Sifuentes Jimenez, who was wanted in Mexico for possessing methamphetamine and firearms. On May 22, he was handed over to Mexican authorities at the Stanton Street Bridge on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Sifuentes illegally entered the United States on May 3, 2021, near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. He was processed for reinstatement of a prior removal order and later released by the Luna County Detention Center in Deming, New Mexico. His first removal from the U.S. occurred on January 28, 2013, following an order issued earlier that month.
Sifuentes’s criminal record in the United States includes several convictions in California: felony robbery in 2008 with a sentence of 364 days in jail; aggravated battery/spouse in 2009 with a sentence of 60 days; and inflicting corporal injury spouse/cohabitation in 2011 with a two-year sentence.
On May 12, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers found Sifuentes at Eddy County Detention Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was serving time for aggravated battery against a household member involving strangulation or suffocation. A detainer was lodged by ERO, leading to his arrest upon release from jail that day.
The following day, Sifuentes faced charges related to alien inadmissibility and re-entry as an arriving alien after previous removal due to an aggravated felony.
