U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken into custody Javid Ahmadi, a 27-year-old Afghan national, in Elkridge, Maryland on May 13. Ahmadi was previously convicted of second-degree assault.
“The arrest of this criminal alien offender, who has been convicted of assault here in Maryland, highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals who violate our immigration laws and engage in serious criminal activity after entering the United States illegally,” stated ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker. “ICE Baltimore will continue to prioritize the arrest and removal of criminal aliens who endanger the safety and well-being of our Maryland communities.”
Ahmadi was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol near San Ysidro, California on October 10, 2023. He was issued a notice to appear and released on an order of recognizance on that same day.
On June 19, 2024, Ahmadi was arrested by Anne Arundel County Police Department for charges including second-degree assault, a fourth-degree sex offense, and indecent exposure. The Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County later convicted him of second-degree assault on April 9 and sentenced him to nearly one year in confinement; however, his sentence was suspended entirely.
Ahmadi is currently held in ICE custody.
