U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported Alvaro De Jesus Martinez-Juarez, a Guatemalan national, from the United States to Guatemala on June 28. Martinez was convicted of sexual conduct against a child and had been residing in the U.S. illegally.

“ICE will not tolerate criminal aliens preying on innocent children in our communities,” stated Joseph Freden, Deputy Field Office Director of ICE Buffalo Enforcement and Removal Operations. “We will prioritize the pursuit of these vile predators and seek their prompt removal from the United States.”

Martinez, aged 55, confessed to entering the U.S. illegally in 1990 by crossing the border from Mexico into California without proper admission or parole by a U.S. immigration official. On March 17, 2015, he was arrested by the Nassau County Police Department for two counts of first-degree sexual conduct against a child under 13 years old while he was over 18. He was convicted of one count on September 18, 2017, and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

An immigration judge ordered his removal from the U.S. on April 9, 2019.

ICE Buffalo apprehended Martinez on June 20 after his release from New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s custody in Wallkill. He was detained at the Buffalo Federal Detention facility until his deportation to Guatemala.
