An immigration enforcement operation by ICE Boston has resulted in a federal charge against Antonio Gonzales, a 53-year-old Dominican national. A federal grand jury indicted Gonzales for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported.
Gonzales was arrested on May 7 by officers from ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. “Antonio Gonzales has not only been previously removed from the U.S, he also has convictions for weapons and drug crimes,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE ERO Boston. “He presented a threat to the residents of our New England communities that we refuse to tolerate. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien threats from our neighborhoods.”
Previously, Gonzales was deported to the Dominican Republic on September 15, 2004. His criminal history includes convictions for possession of a weapon in March 1994 and possession of a controlled substance in November 2000. He allegedly returned illegally to the U.S after his removal in September 2004.
If convicted, Gonzales could face up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, he would be subject to deportation.
The U.S Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts is handling prosecution.
