U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a Dominican national, Gregori Thomas Romero, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on February 1st. Romero, who was unlawfully present in the U.S., faces charges including assault to rape, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault on a family or household member, and strangulation suffocation.

“Gregori Thomas Romero is charged with horrifically victimizing a member of our community,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “Romero represents a significant threat to the law-abiding residents of Massachusetts that we cannot tolerate. ICE Boston stands firmly committed to prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from the streets of New England.”

Romero was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) on July 9, 2023, after entering the United States illegally near San Luis, Arizona. Following his apprehension, USBP issued him a notice to appear before a Justice Department immigration judge.

Subsequently, the Boston Police Department arrested Romero on September 11, 2024, related to the aforementioned offenses. ICE Boston attempted to lodge a detainer, but Romero was released from custody prior to this action.

Members of the public are encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activities by contacting ICE through their hotline at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or through the online tip form.
