U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Wilmer Ramos-Giron, a Guatemalan national, in Chantilly, Virginia, on April 24. Ramos-Giron, previously convicted of a federal firearms crime, faces charges of abduction by force, assault on a family member, and felony strangulation causing injury. His arrest was a collaborative effort between ICE and the Virginia State Police.

“Wilmer Ramos-Giron represents a significant threat to our Virginia residents,” stated Russell Hott, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C. Field Office Director. “He has displayed a blatant disregard for our immigration laws, and more importantly, for the safety and wellbeing of our community. He is a violent and recidivist threat to public safety that ICE Washington, D.C. cannot tolerate. Regardless of the obstacles placed in our way, we remain committed to prioritizing public safety. The men and women of ICE Washington, D.C. will continue to arrest and remove criminal alien threats from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia neighborhoods, and ensure their victims receive the justice they so rightly deserve.”

Ramos-Giron’s history of illegal entry into the United States includes reentering the country twice after deportation. Initially arrested on February 17, 2012, in Chantilly for brandishing a firearm, he was ordered removed from the United States to Guatemala in March 2012. Despite being removed that April, he reentered the U.S. and was arrested again in April 2019 on federal charges of being an alien in possession of a firearm. Convicted in July 2019, he served a nine-month prison sentence before his January 2020 removal to Guatemala.

Ramos-Giron returned to the U.S. once more, undetected. Most recently, he was arrested on January 27 by Fairfax County Police for the current charges. Notably, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office released him without notifying ICE despite an immigration detainer.

Currently, Ramos-Giron remains in ICE custody. The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activities related to immigration by contacting ICE via phone or completing an online tip form.

ICE continues its mission to enhance public safety, with updates available on their official social media platforms.
