U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Sostenes Perez-Lopez, a 59-year-old Guatemalan national, in Brighton, Massachusetts. Perez-Lopez faces charges of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child.

“Sostenes Perez-Lopez stands accused of some horrific crimes against a child in Massachusetts,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston. “We will not tolerate the victimization of our residents at the hands of alien offenders. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by arresting and removing illegally present lawbreakers.”

Perez entered the United States without inspection by immigration officials at an unknown date and location. Following his apprehension on charges related to the indecent assault of a child under 14, ICE filed an immigration detainer with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department at Nashua Street Jail on November 28, 2024.

The following day, Perez was arraigned by the Boston Municipal Court’s Brighton Division. He was charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. The court set bail at $8,000 but released him on December 12, 2024, despite the ICE detainer. Upon release, he was fitted with GPS monitoring as part of special conditions while awaiting trial.

ICE subsequently issued a notice for Perez to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. He is currently held in ICE custody.

The public is encouraged to report any crimes or suspicious activities by calling the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or through their online tip form.
