The arrest of a Dominican national in Lawrence by ICE Boston has led to his conviction for illegal reentry into the United States. Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar, 49, admitted guilt on June 16 at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
“Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar repeatedly displayed a blatant disregard for U.S. immigration laws, and that resulted in his conviction for illegally reentering the country after deportation,” stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston. “We will not stand idly by as criminals subvert our immigration laws and take refuge in our neighborhoods. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our New England communities.”
Aybar-Aybar had been deported from the United States three times before, with the most recent deportation occurring on September 21, 2021. He later returned to the U.S. without proper inspection or authorization.
He could face up to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a fine reaching $250,000 at his sentencing set for September 11. Deportation is also likely after serving any imposed sentence.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
